CMIT–VinUniversity and iWearables Center–Tsinghua University Signed Strategic Memorandum of Understanding

Hanoi, June 8, 2026 – The Center for Materials Innovation and Technology (CMIT) at VinUniversity and the iWearables Center at Tsinghua University officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a strategic partnership to advance collaborative research, academic exchange, and innovation in next-generation materials and intelligent technologies.

The MOU marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between two leading research centers with complementary strengths in advanced materials science, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence, and healthcare applications.

The iWearables Center is led by Academician Seeram Ramakrishna, Tsinghua University Chair Professor and Director of the Center. Internationally recognized as a pioneer in nanofibers and smart materials, Professor Ramakrishna has authored more than 500 Q1 journal publications, achieved an H-index of 227, and received recognition from several of the world’s most prestigious engineering academies.

CMIT is led by Professor Phan Manh Huong, renowned for his pioneering contributions to two-dimensional magnetism, including the realization of tunable room-temperature ferromagnetism in van der Waals materials down to the monolayer limit, and for excellence in mentorship and international scientific cooperation.

Under the signed MOU, the two centers have agreed to pursue a range of joint professional activities, including:

  • Collaborative research and development projects on smart materials and AI-integrated sensor technologies for human healthcare and environmental monitoring.
  • Joint organization of seminars, workshops, symposia, summer schools, and other academic events.
  • Preparatory visits to plan and formulate collaborative research projects and funding initiatives.
  • Exchange of professional staff, scholars, and trainees, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scientists.
  • Additional cooperative activities as mutually agreed upon by both institutions.

By bringing together the expertise of the iWearables Center and CMIT, this strategic alliance is expected to accelerate scientific discovery, promote interdisciplinary innovation, and contribute to the development of transformative technologies for healthcare, sustainability, and societal well-being.

The MOU signing represents an important milestone in expanding international research cooperation and reinforces the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing excellence in science, technology, and education on a global scale.
