Hanoi, July 24, 2026 – The Center for Materials Innovation & Technology (CMIT) was honored to welcome Prof. Kang Li, Professor of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. During his visit, Prof. Li delivered an insightful seminar titled “Membranes – Improve Our Standard of Living” and discussed opportunities for collaborative research.
Outlining the evolution of membrane technology from fundamental science to industrial applications, Prof. Li shared how his research group at Imperial College London has translated core membrane concepts into versatile, real-world solutions across the energy, environmental, and life science domains. He highlighted how innovative membrane developments have directly improved global standards of living, from supplying clean drinking water to millions, to controlling greenhouse gas emissions, and enabling life-saving medical applications such as kidney dialysis.

The seminar attracted great attention and stimulated vibrant discussions among CMIT faculty, researchers and research assistants. Prof. Li also introduced Imperial College London’s research ecosystem and engaged in vibrant discussions on ongoing projects led by CMIT faculty members and researchers.

Prof. Kang Li is a distinguished figure in the international scientific community. He has been Professor of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London since 2007, leading a research group in membrane science, fuel cells, and separation processes. He received Rector’s Award and Research Excellence Award at Imperial in 2007 and MND R&D Award 2013, Singapore. His commitment to working at interdisciplinary boundaries is evidenced by his involvements as an editorial board member of Journal of Membrane Science, Elsevier (Membrane Technology), Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology, Wiley (Chemical Technology), Polymers, MDPI, Switzerland (Polymer Science), Reactive and Functional Polymers, Elsevier (Functional Polymers), etc. and as a guest editor of International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Elsevier (Energy). He has published extensively in international referred journals (cited over 30000 times) with h-index of 92 (Google Scholar) and has authored a book on Ceramic Membranes for Separation and Reaction (Wiley 2007). Prof. Kang Li is also a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK.
