Successful Organization of the “Homecoming for Vietnamese Scientists” Event

Hanoi, June 10, 2026 – The Center for Materials Innovation and Technology (CMIT) at VinUniversity, in close collaboration with VinIF (Vingroup Innovation Foundation) and NAFOSTED (National Foundation for Science and Technology Development), successfully organized the Homecoming for Vietnamese Scientistsevent as part of the International Conference on Materials Innovation and Technology (ICMIT 2026). The event brought together leaders from government ministries and agencies, distinguished Vietnamese scientists and experts from around the world, and representatives from academia and industry to discuss strategies and practical solutions for attracting, retaining, and empowering scientific and technological talent for Vietnam’s development.

In his keynote remarks, Minister of Education and Training (MOET), Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son highly commended the initiative of VinUniversity, VinIF and NAFOSTED in creating a meaningful platform to connect and mobilize the global Vietnamese scientific community. He emphasized that talent competition has become a strategic priority among nations and highlighted the importance of building a supportive ecosystem that enables scientists to contribute effectively and collaborate sustainably in Vietnam.

Dr. Le Mai Lan, Vice Chair of Vingroup and President of the VinUniversity Council, emphasized that the return of scientists is not only a geographical journey but also a commitment to serving the nation and advancing Vietnam’s scientific standing. She expressed VinUniversity’s aspiration to become a meaningful bridge connecting Vietnam with the global scientific community through education, research, and innovation, thereby fostering a vibrant network of talented individuals dedicated to the country’s development.

The conference featured three thematic discussion sessions. The first session, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dao Ngoc Chien, Director of the NAFOSTED, focused on successful talent attraction models and experiences from leading universities. The second session, led by Prof. Vu Ha Van, Scientific Director of VinIF, highlighted personal experiences and insights from Vietnamese researchers working in international environments. The third session, chaired by Prof. Phan Manh Huong, Scientific Director of CMIT, presented innovative initiatives and policy recommendations to address challenges identified in previous discussions and to help shape a stronger talent ecosystem for Vietnam.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the Global VinIF Fellows Network and the Vietnam Global Network for Digital Materials (VGN-DM), two strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration among Vietnamese scientists worldwide and accelerating research excellence in emerging scientific fields.
The success of the “Homecoming for Vietnamese Scientists” program reaffirmed CMIT’s growing leadership role in connecting global scientific talent, fostering international collaboration, and contributing to Vietnam’s long-term vision of becoming a leading hub for science, technology, and innovation.
